Hi
I want to ask that i have
LENOVO THINKCENTRE m58p
E8400 un-overclockable
I dont have any money and decided to change it with
INTEL CORE 2 DUO 2.88GHZ
Tower and going to put 3 to 4 fans in it with one fan for my ati 6450 fanless
Then i m going to oc it to 3.5ghz
Is that all right or i should not exchange my pc
Pz reply quickly

Please describe the circumstances of this trade. Unless it's a friend or family, usually you aren't going to get an offer for a better system for you existing system. Your existing processor has a speed of 3.0 Ghz. The processor you propose to trade it for is also not overclockable from what I can see. Both are older processors, both priced at $40 new in boxed version, far cheaper in OEM tray version.

The processor in the thinkcenter (E8400), is a step up from the CPU you're considering replacing it with, which as far as I can tell is an E7400, which runs at 2.88ghz rather than the 3Ghz the 8400 runs at. Neither are unlocked. Keep the processor you have would be my advice.

Note: Unless there is something offered in the system you're considering replacing your existing system with to make the trade worth it, all you'd be doing is downgrading from and 8400 to a 7400.

So u mean that e7400 is also not ocable hmmmm seems i will never get and overclockable pc.
Why is this e7400 also locked its not from lenovo they always keep there processors locked so than which one should i buy in these series plz can u tell me

Whether its from Lenovo or not has nothing to do with it. It depends on whether the processor is unlocked and you have a compatible motherboard with the ability to OC. There are other ways to overclock though, but having a K processor with a mobo that OC's easily makes it far easier, takes far less time, far more likely to yield stable results. Depending on your motherboard, I'm unsure if it would allow you to OC using a program such as Intel Extreme tuning utility, or others. I'm going to guess it wouldn't be worth the trouble with the motherboard in that thinkcenter to try. But if you have a friend that knows about OCing, you could always ask them and see what their opinion is.

No i already know about ocing
And this e8400 m58p while i try opening IXTU it says platform not supported now i dont know whether its due to the locked motherboard or win 7 but i surely think that e7400 would and if it would will 3-4 fans be alright for ocing

you might be able you get a small OC by adjusting your bus clock, but that will overclock EVERYTHING, USB, RAM, PCI... which creates instabilities thus limiting how much of an OC you will be able to accomplish...

All the processors you mentioned can be OC'd far as I know, whether your motherboard will make it easy to use a program to do so is another story. The E8400 is the best cpu of the list mentioned in this thread though, I'm just saying getting a lower speed cpu because its better for OC doesn't make sense. All the cpu's you've mentioned can be OCd. Whether its worth trying on the motherboard you have or not is another story. If you're saying the system with the lower speed CPU comes with a mobo and bios that makes it easier to OC that's different. Otoh, I don't see why there should be a problem using Intel's extreme tuning utility to OC with your current system.

The last would indicate there may be some hope for Intel Extreme Tuning Utility, but whether its worth it is up to u.
