Hi guys,

My mates coming over later, and he's bringing his 960 to put in place of my brothers 750ti. One problem is that my brothers psu doesnt have the 8 pin connector, but MY pc has a spare modular port for another graphics card. Could i power his GPU (in my brothers pc) from the power supply in MY pc?

I've checked the wattage and everything, so as it stands everything will work, just need to know if i can power his gpu from my pc (whilst using them both, obviously)

Cheers all,
Luke

It would work just fine. However, it is not recommended since one PSU should be powering everything in one tower at a time to keep the power draw from being too much for the PSU.

What do you mean by 'everything being secure'?

Niether systems are exactly demanding in terms of power, and it will only be for tonight, but thanks for the advice! :)

BTW, what would be so bad about a large power draw form the wall? just a slightly more expensive electricity bill?

Secure as in dont overstretch the cables so they are tight and there's none that are likely to get stuck in fans.
As for the power draw being too much on one psu powering the whole pc, utter nonsense. That PSU would normally be powering the whole system anyway so there will be no change in power draw to that particular unit.

Your wall breakers are only rated for, typically, about 2000 watts. This depends on the year of construction and if your electrician didn't beef up your electrical system in your house. Also, keep in mind that most electricians will cut corners and link multiple rooms together in houses and apartments, so you could have two bedrooms and bathroom all on one circuit sharing that same 2000 Watt system. You could blow/trip breakers or fry your PSU if you pull too much power. Typically you don't have to worry about this unless you have a big muliple GPU system or servers. But, if you are having a LAN party or have lots of electronics plugged into the walls, you could potentially pull to much power for the breaker. This does include ceiling fans and lamps as well.
