I own a intel 4770K and 2333mhz Corsair memory.

Default ram speed for 4770K is 1600mhz . I tough ram would have different XMP profiles for different settings but it has only standard which is 1333mhz or xmp 2133mhz . Motherboard is Asus Hero VI

Now since default speed for 4770K is 1600mhz and memory controller is integrated to the CPU . If I set this to the XMP profile would I be OC 'ing the CPU ? Haswells run hot as it is , and I don't intednt to OC the cpu since stability is more important than speed for me.

Will running the xmp profile and using the memory at 2133mhz cause any stability problem?

never used haswell so might be wrong

but didnt think memory speed was tied to cpu speed as such

ie--overclocking one makes the other also overclock

i know overclocking one can make it harder to overclock the other

but thought they overclocked independently of each other

AFAIK , memory controller is integrated to the cpu . When you OC the memory , memory controller is working above the specs , so it's OC'ed too. Tough i'm not sure how important it 's.

yes integrated

but not tied

so if you overclocked the memory it would make the cpu less likely to overclock as high as it would with the memory on the lower speed

for example you overclock the memory and the cpu might only go to a 4.4ghz overclock

if you dont overclock the memory the cpu could overclock to 4.6ghz

Since i'm not OC 'in the CPU , then setting the memory to XMP (2133mhz) is fine and safe?
Sorry if it's a dumb question, OC noob here.
