Laptop heats up when playing games/using heavy programs

Hello!

I've purchased a new laptop specifically about two weeks ago. Recently, I've decided to add a couple of games to play when I'm not doing anything else. When I've played one of the games on the laptop, it tends to heat up in the fan area and make noise (not too loud though). However, the games and programs are running fine (no slowing down, crashes, freezing, etc.).

I've looked through numerous websites and I do know that this tends to be very common. I'm more concerned about the situation because my laptop is new, and it has specifications decent enough to run certain games.

The core specifications on the laptop (Acer Aspire F15 (F5-573G-74NG)) are:

- CPU: 7th generation i7-7500U / 2.7 GHz (3.5 GHz boost, dual core)
- GPU: NVIDIA GeForce 940MX 2GB GDDR5 SDRAM (also Intel HD Graphics 620)
- RAM: 16GB DDR4 SDRAM
- Storage: 256GB SSD
- OS: Windows 10 64-bit

In order to not spew any confusion, my question is: Is it normal for a laptop like mine to heat up and make noise in said circumstances? I'm not extremely worried about it, but I'm only asking this to make sure. In other cases, what other procedures can I do in addition to maintaining the laptop and placing it on an appropriate surface? I've purchased a HAVIT HV-F2056 cooling pad and I'm currently waiting on it to ship to my location at the moment.

I apologize if this question gets asked a lot. If there's any clarification needed in my question/post, I'm not hesitant to answer, add, or change anything.

More info on my laptop here for additional specs that I have not stated above:

Thanks so much for your help!

Getting the cooling pad is a great idea. I would consider it necessary if you are gaming on it.

Changing the thermal paste on the CPU and even the GPU every year is another recommend regular maintenance.
