My Motherboard is ASUS: P5GC-MX/1333 (LGA 775).
Which Processor (CPU) and RAM can i use this motherboard for the best performance?

The E8600 @ 3.3ghz is a good start, but to be competitive right now, I think you should look on ebay for a converted Xeon offering. the E5460 is about 30 bucks converted from LGA771 and is a high-cached 2x6mb L2 cached, quad core 3.13 mhz little beast.

the E5450 is 3.0, and runs on a lot less power at the socket but these chips max out at 3.3 or so.

you're sadly close to the end of useful life gaming wise, but it's usefulness as a PC will extend for quite some time with a solid quadcore onboard.

Already modded and ready to rock, half the price of it's Q9650 counterpart as used...

considering you have an aftermarket enthusiast board, it will mostly likely pick up and run without a hitch. an HP/DELL/Whatever system sometimes throws a tantrum about a new CPU onboard, or doesn't support the xeon lineup.

As for ram, chances are the cheapest old ddr2-3 will be the most useful. Also, if you really want the last bit of juice out of your core2 system read up on the linustech overclock guide for LGA775. basic tips on how to FSB your way to greatness. if you can get a core2 quad near 4 ghz and cold enough to be stable, that will actually do for gaming.
