Approximate Purchase Date: This week

Budget Range: 1250$

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Watching Films > Gaming > Editing

Are you buying a monitor:
Not right now, will do at some later date (currently running an old 1080p LG) will eventually be using this PC with a 1440p monitor and possibly VR.

Do you need to buy OS: Yes (Win 10 QQ)

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: http://en.ksp.co.il

Location: City, State/Region, Country: Israel

Overclocking: Not right now, possibly in the future but so far I never overclocked any PC and they served me for 4-6 years each

SLI or Crossfire: Don't know don't care? I don't intend to stack GPUs

Additional Comments:
I like my PCs to age well, so far I had great success with that, I rarely game these days but I plan on going back into that realm, I big images at times for a living and intend to creat online content (YouTube?) so will need to edit some videos/music too I imagine.

And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading:
My PC just died this morning, it was 6 years old. I think my GPU or Mobo got burned but I'm not sure, did all that I could to revive it but the display isn't showing anything after following some basic tests and clean-ups, I figured it did it's job well enough for a 1200$ PC and it's time for a new one.

Main questions:
1. How can I make it cheaper while keeping relatively same performance (I'd like to trim some fat off the cost)
2. Is my SSD of choice decent? I went according to available stock near me.
3. Should I get G.Skill Trident Z RGB 2x8GB DDR4 2400Mhz CL15? I mean over my current pick. They fit my motherboard's native ram speed and I hear all great things about Trident Z.

I appreciate any and all replies, really.

Solution
For one thing, you MUST upgrade ram to DDR4, as DDR3 will not work on this motherboard.
Also, this motherboard has a very good chance to be shipped with BIOS version that will not work with chosen CPU. Either make sure your seller does the update for you, or swap motherboard for Z270.
The PSU wattage might be a little low, especially if you decide to overclock later.
If going for Z-type motherboard, yes you want 7600k over 7500, as 7500 cannot be overclocked. Or if going for 7500, you can buy cheaper motherboard (with B250 chipset for example).

I appreciate that advice, but that seems very hard to do when my PC died today, if only it had lasted another month ^_^

Thanks friend, could you point to a reasonably priced motherboard that will work with DDR3 and the current CPU without an update? I'm way too new at this to actually notice all the details. Unless you believe DDR4 to be a real worthwhile upgrade.

OK, so I guess I'll upgrade to DDR4 (is the G.Skill 3000Mhz CL15 version good?) but then which motherboard should I go with?

Only have the Gigabyte HD3P or X series (and some Gaming versions) around.
Asus Z270-E seems a bit over my budget unless you believe I should pour that extra 100$ into a mobo.
How's the Asus Z270-P?

Thank you for taking the time, you've been super helpful, at least I got a clue now.

As far as matching things, seems like native ram-speed for this mobo is 2400.
Should I go with G.Skill Trident Z RGB 2x8GB DDR4 2400Mhz CL15?
Currently planning on the G.Skill 2x 8GB Ripjaws-V DDR4 3000Mhz 15CL.

Looks like I missed a thing yesterday: you need a cooler, cos 7600k does not come with boxed one. Sorry, I guess I was a bit tired. Here you have a link: https://pcpartpicker.com/products/compare/hmtCmG,93Crxr/
As for memory, cool thing about Z boards is, they can use faster ram. So if those 3000 don't cost too much for you, it is good to have them. But you can get 2400 too, they will work well. One thing to keep in mind is: if you later want to add more memory, you should always buy one that has specs as close to the one you already have as possible.

Actually my merchant seems to have a boxed 7600K. but maybe they can tell me if I misunderstand that somehow.
Will go over it now, do you suggest to get an unboxed 7600K and buy a cooler?

What a ripoff, they charge 12$ extra for that...hah :)

Thanks, the CoolerMaster Hyper 212X seems pretty solid, I got limited options there so I can't go for the Evo.

You've been a pc-life-saver, gonna probably go pay for it soon now - if you got any last moment ideas about how to make it a bit cheaper while keeping great-ish components that would be good to know, but either way I wish I could thank you somehow beyond words ^_^

If anything, make a good search on GPU - there's always a chance to find one at better price. Since your CPU has good iGPU, you can even initially skip GPU and buy it later, giving you a bigger time window to get something at good price. And since GPU is one of the most expensive components, if you can find a deal with even 5% price drop, it makes substantial amount of money.
Good luck and have fun!
