Ok so i'm looking to build a perfect gaming PC to run with a 1440p monitor.

Currently i'm learning game designing so a computer that can render & game would be perfect.

My build ideas -

FIRST BUILD
----------------------------------------------------
Gigabyte z97x Gaming 5
212 Evo
I7 7700k
Gtx 1080 or 1070 *Not sure about the edition*
16gb DDR4 3200mhz Ram
----------------------------------------------------
SECOND BUILD
----------------------------------------------------
Asus PRIME B350
212 Evo
Ryzen 1700x or 1800x
Gtx 1080 or 1070 *Not sure about the edition*
8gb DDR4 2133mhz Ram
----------------------------------------------------
I'm not sure what would be better to get, i've heard some bad things about ryzen with gaming but good things with rendering...

I game alot so FPS is needed if i'm playing 1440p :p

Thanks guys!

For the first build, you would need a Z270 motherboard, not a Z97. Other than that, it's good. The second build also looks good. Ryzen isn't necessarily bad at gaming, because you can still get some good frames. It's just that if you're into gaming, the 7700K is the best CPU currently. If you're into both gaming and rendering, both the 1700 and the 7700K are good. It depends on what you put first. If you want to game more than render, the 7700K is pretty good. If you want more rendering, then the 1700 is the way to go.

I'm by no means an expert, I still haven't finished my build yet. But there's a few things I notice right off the bat.

The first thing I'd like to address is the rumor that Ryzen is bad for gaming. I've seen multiple reviews and benchmarks that show the 1700 performing near the 7700k and 6900k. Not quite there, but close. And at such a cheap price point, it's worth the slight performance difference, as well as getting the additional workstation performance that it provides over Intel. The reason I said 1700 is because it's "recommended" to go with that over the 1800 or 1800x, the performance increase is marginal.

Next, there are a few issues with your first build. The motherboard you chose is incompatible with your RAM choice, it only supports up to DDR3, and going with the 7700k (which I'm not positive but think that's also incompatible) you'll want a motherboard that can utilize all those extra features. ESPECIALLY at that price point... I mean wow... 285 dollars... you can get a Z270 board that utilizes everything the 7700k has to offer for MUCH cheaper.

Ah ok, thank you. I might just go with the 1700 at this point just because it'll be about the same as the 7700k and good for rendering
