LGA775 MB won't resume from sleep after cpu-change.

So the specs:
MB - Abit ix38 quadgt
DDR2 1066 8GB
CPU q9550
CPU (old) q8400
gtx660
asus sata3 controller
ssd ocz vertex4
windows10 pro

So everything was working normal (windows goes to sleep.. click the mouse and resumed) with my old CPU q8400.

Now i've put a q9550 cpu and now i can tell windows to go to sleep.. but when i click the mouse, the fans are on, but no video, no sound, no reaction to anything. I have to hard reset and it boots just fine.

The mb has a display.. FF is for a full boot, but when i resume it does not go to FF but gets stuck at 88.

I've checked the manual and 88 does not appear in the code list. (note 8.8. is another code, mine says 88 without the periods)

I have not managed to resume at all times after the cpu change.

What is weird.. that the old q8400 was not fully supported by mb.. it worked but temperature readings were off (hundreds of degrees constantly changing), and EIST did not work. OC was dodgy.. ran at stock speed. - but stable and ran for a few months with this cpu.. no other issues.

The q9550 is fully supported by mb.. listed in manual, temperatures show ok, OC works nice (470fsb, shy of 4GHz from 2.83.. temperatures are fine)

So any bios setting to look out for?

(changing the cpu back is a pita.. i have to get the mb out of the case to remove the cpu cooler.. i'd rather not mess with another cbu on this mb)

The bios version is the newest.. but still old, abit is out of business for quite a while.

Solution
Ok so this motherboard is hard to work with and has a lot of personality and quirks.

The problem is solved after swapping some ram.
I had 2x2GB ddr2 1066 ocz fatality @2V
and 2x2GB ddr2 1066 kingston hyperX @2.3V
after cpu change got another 2x2gb ddr2 1066 kingston hyperx @2.3V.
So i went with 8GB of kingstons all same voltage. (before i had mismatch ram)

After cpu change i went with 8GB kingston.. and it had the sleep problem. tried just 4gb of kingstons and it was the same sleep issue.
Recently i've tried the original mix and added the ocz into the mix (4gb kingson, 4gb OCZ) and S3 sleep works again flawlessly.
(the quirk is that if i add both rams it does not post or start because of voltage differences.. to start i have to...

(the quirk is that if i add both rams it does not post or start because of voltage differences.. to start i have to remove the 2V sticks, start only with 2.3V sticks, manually set voltage to 2.2V and then add the 2V sticks.. and works ok after that.. sure the 2v ones are overvolted and the 2.3v are undervolted.. but it worked for years like this and when i finally had all 4 rams the same had issues.. )

So to sum it up: it does not work with 4 sticks of ram of the same kind, but works with a certain mix of ram sticks that are not even the same voltage (also this mix is slot dependent.. it won't boot if i swap the rams in the slots)
