Hi.
I have a new SSD i plan to install. My question is, will installing windows on the ssd effect the files on the old HDD? I wanna use the old HDD as the secondary drive and keep the current files after deleting the old windows files alone. So, if I install windows on the SSD, I can just log on to the windows on the SSD and use the files on the old HDD right? And if I manually delete the old windows files, it would also work?

Solution
Just to double down, yes you can. Install OS on SSD without HDD connected.

Or, if your OS partition is smaller than the SSD (and your Win install isn't old) you can use migration software to just copy it over. Clean install is always better tho.

You will need to copy the files you want to keep to an external source. install the OS on the SSD once this is completed reformat your old HDD completely wiping the disk. You can then use it as a secondary drive. you can then move around the files to where you want them from the external source. You cannot just delete the windows files from your old HDD.

When you go to reformat the old HDD make sure you boot up onto the new SSD you can do this in the bios or just plug in the hdd after the system is already booted. in disk management double and triple check you are reformatting the correct drive.

This is the solution that uses EraseUS to clone the data right? Will this effect any of the folders that are on the 2nd partition? I have 2 partitions right now on my drive. One for the windows installation and other for my documents. If I clone the windows partition, will it delete any files from the document partition?
