So I recently bought an i5-3570k and it worked but I had a few problems with things crashing so I took it out and put it back in and now my computer turns on for 3 seconds and then turns off. I have updated my BIOS but this didn't make a difference

if your computer is coming on for a few seconds and fans spin then goes off again, it can sometime mean a short as well as many other things, try with just the CPU, 1 stick of memory, obviously the power supply and the GFX card plugged in, then go from there, adding one device at a time, also sometimes helps to build your system on the motherboard box, this eliminates the case as the problem, ie a short caused at the back of the motherboard maybe by a standoff in the wrong place etc.

I will give this a go, but the only notable thing is that my computer starts up just fine with my old CPU

this is new information, If it starts fine with your old CPU the its the CPU that's the problem, I was going to suggest updating the bios, but I see you've already done that.
