Please Help figure out what needs an upgrade on my Rig /Rainbow Six Siege

Hey guys
Im having some issues playing R6 siege at 144fps, and at this moment i dont know which part of my hardware is making it impossible for me to reach a stable framerate.

Most of the time i can get over it, but the fps drops during some situations is becoming annoying

Task manager says im using 85% CPU and 75% of total ram while playing, i can lower the cpu usage to 70% while using VSync, but the fps still drops by 20 to 30 (144 to 125 fps).

i got an i7- 4790 cpu gtx 1070 and 8gb of ram and im unsure on how i can make it run constantly at above 144 fps , i tried streaming the game earlier and if i use the gpu the game fps barely changes and with a cpu enconder it drops like 20 fps. So i dont think the gpu is the issue here

Thanks in advance for answering , this is bugging me and me and my friends cant seem to find an answer

  1. Get hardware monitor to determine the root cause. HD, CPU, GPU or Ram. Something is hitting 100%.

So whatever hits 100% needs an upgrade?

But hey do you think if i get more ram i might get a slight fps increase? 10/15?
    Thanks
  3. What settings and resolution are you trying and have you tried lowering the settings?

I'm playing at monitors normal resolution 1920.1080 and im playing with textures high everything else low or off and anti aliasing off instead of temporal filtering. Really dont wanna use temp filtering altough it makes no difference that i notice on fps.
  5. The only time I would suggest a RAM upgrade is if you only have 8 GB or less or only have one stick making the ram run in single channel mode.

But this depends on the game also and monitor resolution. In BF1 I see my system using up to 7.5 GB of ram. So if I only had 8, it could cause issues.

With HWmonitor you can also check your temps.

If your CPU or GPU are hitting 100% during the FPS drops then OC the item. Or lower the eye candy.

Hey the gpu hit max 98% but mostly stays at 70% and cpu hits 100% so i'm guessing it's really the cpu's issue . Thing is i'm running with the stock cpu cooler and my cpu hits temps higher than 80% when i OC it , maybe i should buy a new cooler and another stick of ram? i only got 1 ram stick of 8gb.

    Thanks a ton ^^

Only you can know if a RAM upgrade will help. Consider

I have 8GB of RAM and am using a bit less than 5GB. That is not only what the game is using. If that were at 7 or higher I would upgrade to 16GB of RAM. https://www.msi.com/page/afterburner Click on gear(settings). Enable system memory, RAM usage, CPU(package and not individual cores) and GPU temps and load percentages. I also enable core and memory clock.

The 4790 isn't exactly weak. It isn't the 7700 i7 but it isn't a slouch by any stretch. I didn't see an OC in your list of troubleshooting steps. If you OC and it improves your FPS then we know a CPU upgrade can help.

Higher than 80C? or %. If it's % then that does suggest a CPU upgrade is neededbut I am curious what happens to your FPS after an OC. Have to move over to Skylake(7700?). The 212 EVO with 2 fans keeps my 4690K happy.

    80C i meant sorry
  10. i just noticed something , https://gyazo.com/2ab614beed3f6c1459fed26345b3f2a8 it says it's using 35% of Memory like that? is that normal? while playing with the game using 3.5gb it says it's at 75% of usage , is there something wrong with Ram?

What says 75%? VRAM usage? Task manager? How are you seeing 75% RAM usage in the game? A screenshot of the 75% usage would be more informative. I don't see a problem with RAM. A need for more? Probably. A problem? No.

At this point I strongly suggest 16GB RAM. I wouldn't mix any with that stick. You are running in single channel mode with only one module installed. The board needs modules installed in multiples of two to run in dual channel mode.

I would recommend the same as above. Get a package of 2 sticks of RAM. You could try and buy a matching stick of ram, but you are taking the chance that they will not work together. Best to get them in a pair.

Also, get CPU cooler (Hyper 212 Evo) or Water(h100i) some don't like the H100 but I have used mine for 4 years with no issues and you should be able to get to 4.2 without any issues.

With air cooler you have to clean the fins more often.

If you want try the ram first, then OC if needed.

My i5 with the h100 and a OC to 4.2 will hit a max of 67C. I can safely go to 80C. So, I still have room to bump it up more. You will have to research what would work with your CPU and fit your needs.
