Ram or CPU upgrade

Hey everyone I'm hoping someone can help me here. I currently own a 4690k @ 4.5Ghz, ASUS ROG Maximus VII Hero, 8gb 1866Mhz ram, and EVGA 980Ti SC and play at 1440p 96hz max settings. My issue with performance comes from when I start multitasking while gaming. I run two monitors. On my second monitor I always have my browser open with a Twitch stream, YouTube, or Netflix with having a few other tabs open. I also run voice and music programs.

I think the best way I can describe my problem is I get a slight microstutter in my games when I have all those things going.

So I'm wondering if getting another 8gb or ram will fix what I'm experiencing or if I should upgrade to a better cpu that can handle multitasking better? Or both?

For cpu upgrades I was considering two options. 1) Upgrade to the 4790k and save a ton of money by not having to upgrade my mobo and ram to DDR4 . 2) Get Ryzen 1600x as that has about the same or better performance than Haswell but amazing at multitasking, and as more devs start to utilize more than 4 cores these will really start to shine, but I'd have to buy a new mobo, ram, and most likely a new AiO since I'm not sure if my h80i will work with AM4.

I would be able to recoup a good amount of money by reselling my current build which would offset the price for a new set up a bit.

Hopefully someone can tell me the best route to go, any help is much appreciated.

Well what does it say in task manager, that will tell which is being maxed out between cpu and ram.

Ryzen is good bang for buck on multitasking performance (looking at 1700x or 1800x vs a $1000 intel 6900k), but for gaming their single core performance is weaker then mainstream i7.
If CPU is the problem then it should at least be worth waiting until the 1600x can be benchmarked to know for sure. If the 1600x has weaker cores then i5/i7 then upgrading to the 4790k would still be a great upgrade path for you.

Great! I'm glad that this problem can be fixed.

Sounding like I should just go for the 4790k then.

Alright awesome I'm glad it is something this simple!

THANKS for the help everyone!!!
