Amount of video ram is only a small part of the specs needed to run a game. If you have all other requirements met, then if the game starts with your setup, it will run. It may run slowly but it will run.

If a game you're playing requires more memory than what your graphics card provides, it will automatically borrow whatever memory is available from your system RAM. In the past, this tech was called NVidia TurboCache and ATI Hypermemory. Using system RAM allocated as extra video RAM is slower, but games should still run.

Sure games can run with 1GB VRAM. Can all games run with 1GB VRAM? Probably not. Then you need to look to your CPU and RAM to find out more. I really want to play Battlefield 1. I Google its min. sys. reqs.

OS: 64-bit Windows 7, Windows 8.1, and Windows 10.
Processor (AMD): AMD FX-6350.
Processor (Intel): Core i5-6600K.
Memory: 8 GB RAM.
Graphics card (AMD): Radeon HD 7850 2 GB.
Graphics card (Nvidia): GeForce GTX 660 2 GB.
DirectX: 11.0 Compatible video card or equivalent.
I only have 1GB of VRAM so I fall below its req. specs.. All is not lost. They are USUALLY generous with these suggestions. There is a slight "margin of error". I might be able to play with a resolution of 1366x768 and all GFX settings(in-game) bottomed out. MAYBE. OpenGL and/or other card features are also important.
