Using Onboard Graphics AND Graphics Card Bad?

I've explored using both motherboard graphics and GPU graphics for a dual monitor set up; one monitor would be connected to each. I've seen many people say it's possible but a few people have said that it is bad to do or is not recommended. The people who say this however don't really give a reason much beyond "it's easier to plug them both into the same thing."

Is there any real reason other than the ease of set up? Is there any real benefit to doing this or not doing it? My rationalization is that it will put no added strain on the GPU as the motherboard graphics are taking the load of the second monitor (although I'm sure there is more to it than that). It would be nice to have the GPU connected to my gaming monitor for games while having the second monitor connected to the MoBo graphics so I could have up a chatroom or Discord or whatever I might need for streaming. Would like to go into setting up my second monitor (when it arrives) with the right knowledge :)

Relevant PC specs:
-EVGA GTX 1050 Ti SC
-ASRock Z270 Killer SLI/AC
-Intel i7 6700K
-Nothing is being overclocked

yep makes little difference.

I run one monitor off my igpu, just because it runs a different refresh rate, and I had weird problems running two different refresh rates from the same gpu, but doing this does seem to make my cpu run a bit hotter.

the only benefit really is that if you run the second monitor from the card, it means you can have the igpu disabled, meaning less heat coming from the cpu.

Extra 2d work for a modern card thats already running anyway is negligible, wont affect the performance of it really.

It's not bad to run one monitor of the integrated graphics but as Rob said there isn't really a benefit to doing that either. Driving a second monitor with something simple like a web browser open has no noticeable effect on a modern GPU.

I have dual 1440p monitors and an Oculus Rift plugged into my 1070 and I haven't seen a performance decrease from when I only had a single monitor plugged in. My framerates are usually similar or slightly better than what I see in mainstream benchmarks for any given game.
