I know these aren't high end cards my any means. My new notebook has the newer 940MX and I would like to know how it compares to the GT 755M which was in my last notebook. Now 940MX can be quite nice with GDDR5 but my notebook only has DDR3 while the GT 755M always came with GDDR5. The performance of the 940MX with DDR3 is basically the same as the 940M. Now userbenchmark says that the GT 755M is 15% faster overall. Doesn't look like much.

I only do very light gaming such as Diablo 3, Heroes of the Storm and Starcraft 2 albeit at 1080p.

Realistically, the 755M was the 'high end' of the mobile 700 series and DDR5, and the 940M (DDR3 variant) is very much in the 'low-mid range' space of the 900 series (with the 800series being a wash; rebrands of the 700 series cards and low end 'new' cards).

While the 900 series had some nice cards, with some decent improvements overall, I'd still expect a high end 700series to outperfom the more budget 900series cards. I haven't tested the two directly, but a 15% 'faster' generalization seems a little low to me. Obviously YMMV depending on the specific title, but I'd expect the 755M to better the 940MX by more than 15% more often than not.

As a basic comparable with desktop class components, you're looking at something like a 780/780TI* vs a 950. They just play in different spaces & serve very different purposes.

*Needless to say, I'm not says a 755M performs anything like a 780TI - I'm just trying to show the 'high end' 700series vs 'low to mid range' 900series.
