Does my cpu need more power or is my power supply broken?

Hey everyone,

I'm working on building my first pc. I put all the parts together but the pc does not boot to bios. I did a lot of connecting and disconnecting, double checking a lot. Found that if I connect the power supply's 4 pin cpu cable the pc doesnt get any power at all. If I leave it disconnected all the fans turn on, and everything has power (but the cpu ofcourse).
I tought my motherboard was broken so I send my motherboard/cpu/cpu-cooler and ram back to the store for repairs. (I had to send everything because I bought it as a package. They send it back and said it all works. So now I'm thinking either my power supply is broken or my cpu requires a different power connection to the motherboard. (my power supply offers a 4 pin connector and I see theres room for larger connectors on the motherboard.)

My specs are:
intel i7 7700k
EVGA8GB D5 GTX 1070 FTW Gaming ACX 3.0
Asus Prime Z270 motherboard
16GB Corsair ram
Antec VP 700P 700W ATX24

Anyone knows what the issue could be?

thanks

Your board has an 8 pin connection, not a 4 pin. If your PSU does not have an 8 pin connector, for the CPU cable, then get a better PSU. Something like a Corsair CX650m, or an Evga B2 750, for instance. That Antec unit is not really all that great, for a build such as yours.

Thanks for the quick response, I was not sure about power consumption and don't know much about the power supply needs of pc's so I let my friend who knows more about this than me pick it for me. I guess I will need to buy a new power supply then.

Thanks for the help

your psu is fine and has a 8 pin

Usually the 2 4pins connect together to make an 8 pin
