Hello I have recently bought a 4k TV (HDCP 2.2 Compliant) and I have been meaning to upgrade my PC for a while so I thought I might as well build one that can play HEVC 10bit files.

I have a few files that my current PC almost blows up trying to play.

I have read lots about how difficult it is to get HEVC 10Bit playback. I have selected the i7 7700k 4.2 ghz Kaby Lake CPU and ASRock Fatal1ty Z270 Gaming K6 Motherboard. I have spoken to both manufacturers and their specs specifically state that HEVC 10Bit playback is supported.

Basically I dont want a big expensive graphics card as i'm not a gamer, and want to keep the costs down. Can someone confirm that the components I have selected will do what I require?

I have also read that 4K files through Netflix etc is only achievable though Microsoft Edge and if windows has been upgraded to include PlayReady 3.0. with this requirement also apply to 4k files I have for playback through VLC or Media Player Classic?

any other advice or news on 4k HEVC 10bit playback would be appreciated too.

Thanks

Anthony

Solution
if you get a kaby lake cpu and the motherboard they would support it, than yes.

The CPU has a GPU built in. Not good for gaming but for your purpose, yes.
I believe if you use a GPU, you're going to loose the ability as it lies in the DRM baked in the Kaby Lake chips, so by bypassing the built in GPU on the CPU, and using a dedicated GPU, you would look though.

Yes, netflix only uses edge right now for 4K, although with a new 4K TV, 95% it's a smart TV, and has a netflix client built in, and thus you'd get a true direct 4K signal on the TV without any stages in between.

With a CPU or GPU that has HEVC decoding built in, it's not a strain on the system. Software decoding of HEVC is almost impossible.

As for comfirming that they will do it, don't know, but if they say......lol

Ok but I have HEVC 10bit files on my PC so can these be played without a GPU?
