The laptop I'm thinking of buying has a 256gb ssd and tbh I still don't know the difference between that and a hard drive even though I've read up on it. I do know that most of the laptops I've looked at offer like 1tb of hard drive and 256gb in comparison is tiny. I'd like to be able to download a couple of games like dragon age, skyrim, firewatch, sims etc and still use the internet and use itunes and stuff but idk if that would be possible with that size?

And if it's not enough would I be able to use it and fill it and then swap it out for another ssd later on or would that change my laptop like getting rid of downloaded games etc

Hard-drives have moving parts and can hold much more storage, however they're much more prone to failures because of this. Hard Drives are generally cheaper because they are old technology and don't cost as much to manufacture.

SSD's are the way of the future. There is no moving parts and they are much faster than a Hard Drive. However they are expensive and don't come in sizes as large as Hard Drives do (For the conventional user).
