MSI GeForce GTX 1070 ARMOR 8G OC price drop (should I buy)

Hello guys,

I was waiting for last 3 weeks for price of 1060 to drop but it never happened. I was ready to drop £250 on Gigabyte 1060 6GB WF2 and I have noticed that MSI GeForce GTX 1070 ARMOR 8G OC dropped price to £335

Is there any reason not to buy this card?

PS. I was reading some articles from March 2017 and they all claim that gtx 1070 is the best value for money, is that true?

my PC for reference:
Proc: I7 6800k (not overclocked)
Mobo: Gigabyte X99 Ultra Gaming
GPU: Sapphire Radeon 7850 (at the moment)
RAM: KINGSTON HyperX 16GB DDR4
HDD: Samsung 850 Evo M.2 SSD + WD Black 2TB
PSU: Corsair 550W

This is a good card and really worth that money. However yu can wait until the price for GeForce GTX 1080 will drop as well

That sounds like an excellent deal from my perspective. That card normally goes for about 380 to 390. It is true that all of the Geforce GTX cards below the 1080 should drop in price slightly with the lower price on the 1080 itself, but that is still a good deal on one of my favorite 1070 variants. As long as you are using a monitor that has above a 720p (1366 x 768) resolution, I would recommend it.

it does not have 8pin but I ordered: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B002E4V414/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
this adapter.

Can this PSU handle that card toghether with my other components mentioned above? and can this adapter be used and work fine?

I would probably get a better PSU to be honest, thats quite a low end one and the rest of your build is quite high end - not worth cheaping out on the PSU IMO.

It does have a PCIE 6+2 connector, which can be used either as a PCIE 6 pin or a PCIE 8 pin, so you do not need an adapter.

I would probably retire it, but obviously the choice it yours.

If you get a splitter cable for the pci-e connection you should be fine.

No, the motherboard one is the EPS/ATX12V 8-4 pin connector ( two sets of four pin connectors ). You should still have the PCIE 6+2 available. According to the specifications, the PSU has both PCIE 6 and PCIE 6+2 cables built in.

so 24pin at the bottom and then I use this 6+2 on the one in the right above gigabyte text. Am I doing it wrong? I don't have 2x 4pin cable to use there...
I double check when I'm back home but pretty sure that was only 8 pin I could use.

So you use the 24pin, and the 8 pin on the right hand side, but the 8pin for the motherboard is differerent to the 6+2 PCI-e.

but I can't understand why I would use 6+2 (as I did) if I had this other connection available.

The one going to the motherboard above the Gigabyte text should be labeled EPS and be a set of two 4 pin connectors.
