Hi,

Motherboard: Nightblade B85
Yesterday i bought a new fan (3 pin) connected on a 4 pin header and it's working fine.
But i haven't found a solution on how to control it, i've been searching for hours now on google and now i know it's possible to control a 3 pin fan but it depends on your motherboard. I couldn't find if my motherboard was able to control a 3 pin fan. Does anyone have an answer on this, because it isn't that loud but it's always on 100% now, which is unnecassary.

Thanks in advance

Solution
All power supplies have molex connectors. If the supply is modular you may need to connect the right power supply cables. Check your case for cables tucked away anywhere, e.g. behind the motherboard tray.
A 4-pin fan has PWM control.
The only way to control a 3-pin fan is through lowering the voltage, and as far as I know there is no motherboard that will do this for you.
You can get simple adapters that use a resistor to lower voltage as Noctua provide with many fans, or cables that use the voltage differences on a molex connector to supply 7V or 5V as bitfenix do with some fan cables, or you can use a fan controller.

an adapter is for 3 different voltages is provided by the fan, it's a be quiet silent wings 2, 92mm.
They are 5, 7 and 12V. but the end of the cable is a connection with 4 big pins. i don't know how to connect it cause i only know the small 4 pins (4 pin pwn possibly).

New motherboards (like my GA-B250M-D3H) have the option to control 3-pin fans through voltage in BIOS. But I guess old mobo might now have such option, even with latest BIOS version.
Adapters will slow down fan, but it will still run with the same speed all the time. Only fan controller is solution here.

but what if i use an adapter which is possible to plug in into my motherboard wich 7V. so, the fan is 3 pin and then connect it with a 3 pin to 7V 3 pin

Looked at pictures, so you have the adapter that has molex plug (that big 4-pin) at one and and three fan connectors at the other end labelled 5V, 7V and 12V?
If yes, then you connect the molex plug to matching connector on PSU, then connector labelled 7V to fan plug. Obviously when comp is turned off.

yea alright, got it. but i have no clue how to connect that to my psu, since it's at the bottom of my pc. do i have to take all the components out? omg
