The legend (what the boxes mean) is in your posted image. Each box represents an area of your HD

.... blue ones represents spaces containing contiguous files
.... red indicates fragmented files.
.... yellow indicates that the file is in progress of being defragmented

When a file is fragmented, the head will remain stationery and read the file fragment as the disk spins, but then it has to find and jump 2 the next file fragment and so on. a) Client ABC Corps file are all located in the same file cabinet, in same file draw, in the same "hanging file" with sequentially numbered manilla folders for each year

b) Tax returns were filed by date completed regardless of client and the 10 folders you need are all over the office in different cabinets, drawers and folders

Which scenario will take you longer to collect the information requested ?

When you are done, all your files will be located on contguous disk pace meaning the head won't have to jump all over the place (analagous to you running from room to room, cabinet / draw to cabinet / draw to find what it needs. Therefore reading data off the disk will proceed mush faster.
