Hey so I am having a weird bug with my system, but I actually think this may be amd driver related. My laptops bios has a "switchable graphics" option that allows me to turn the intel graphics on or off. If the option is turned "off" my system will only work if I install the AMD drivers from the dell support page are installed. If I try and install the latest amd pro drivers the system freezes during installation and freezes every other boot; until I turn switchable graphics back on then the system works with the latest AMD drivers. What I want is switchable graphics turned off and the ability to have the latest AMD drivers installed and working.

I have contacted both Dell and AMD about the problem and they have no idea what there doing. AMD actually just stopped contacting me about the problem.

Ok, first off - why do you want the switchable graphics turned off?
That's essentially a 'power saving' feature of the laptop (lower powered graphics when the sheer power of the Firepro card isn't necessary), and is very likely there's been quite some engineering effort to ensure that configuration is used.

That being said though, it is odd the functionality exists to turn it of if it was never intended to be used.

In your BIOS, does it have any mention of display adapters? Can you change the priority?

I would assume you could install the AMD driver with 'switchable graphics' enabled, then disable. Once disabled, ensure your BIOS is enabling the correct display adapter (Firepro in this case) during POST. If you're disabling switchable graphics inside Windows, yet your BIOS is anticipating the Intel GPU to kick in once POST/BIOS passes to your OS, that's likely where your lockup is coming from.

Hey thanks for getting back to me; the setting to enable/disable switchable graphics is actually built into the bios. And you are correct, with switchable graphics enabled I can use the latest AMD drivers, but once I switch it in the bios to off it freezes up the system in windows unless I use the drivers offered by dell.
