want to connect my printer to laptop through wifi router

Assalam-o-Alaikum & Hello guys...i want to ask u guys that i want to connect my hp laserjet printer to my laptop through wifi router, the question is, if there is no internet connection it will work or not??? i have tried having no internet connection.... guide me if am making some mistake..... first i connected my hp printer to my wifi router through ethernet cable then found its ip address...then i connected my laptop to wifi router....then from devices and printer menu i gone to the add a printer option.....after that to the add a local printer then to create new port, selected standard tcp port.....after that provided the ip address....windows started detecting the tcp port but did not find it ....

Ok you are going to have to force it to connect then.

You will need to go into your router configuration page and figure out what IP address scheme you are using and what your DHCP range is.
The 4 most common ones are 192.168.1.x or 192.168.0.x, or 192.168.10.x or 192.168.11.x.
Now you need to know your DHPC range so lets say your router sets the range from 192.168.x.100 - .254; in that case you need to go to your printer, find the network settings and assign it an address with the first 3 sets of numbers the same and the last set of numbers one that is NOT in the dhcp range above, >2 and <255. Subnet will be 255.255.255.0, and Gateway will be your router IP addrees
Then you can go into the add a printer wizzard and type the address...

internet or not matter not as your setting up your printer on an internal network which is composed of your router and your laptop.

1. make sure printer is set (see manul to change setting on lcd display of printer) to DHCP
2. configure your router for wifi that your laptop can handle, and make sure DHCP is set to on! on the router
3. reboot router
connect to router via the web page of the device and check ":device attached" if you see your printer you will know the IP the router assigned to the printer at that time.
4, goto printer, add printer, network, let it search and see if it find it all by itself, if yes then select it and install drivers (you may have to have the cdrom for it /file downloaded from web site first. and you should be able to print at that point when system installs driver say yes to test page'

There should be a document that came with the printer that explains how to proceed step by step. If not, you can download it from manufacturer's web site. Fpor printers, it is recommend that you assign a static IP address with the last number > 200. we have ours set up as:

Canon Floor Standing 2880i MF printer / Copier / Fax => xx.xxx.xx.216
HP 10555CM Wide Format Plotter => xx.xxx.xx.217
Canon Photo Printer => xx.xxx.xx.218

Also HP (as well as most manufacturers) have a network search tool aka "network wizard' that *finds* HP printers

Did your printer come with an installation CD, otherwise you should download the instal driver.

You can certianly install a printer on a network without internet.
Your issue is likley somewhere in IP configuration or driver recognition. 2 problems that would be eliminated using the install disk/program

i tried using the hp universal printing software, when i search for the network printer it shows me my printer and also its information but upon checking its status it takes time and in last shows "unable to communicate" kindly guide me.

If that does not work then something must be defective in the pirnter.
