My SATA 3 HDD went out. I bought a new hard drive and installed it (SSD). It works great. I bought a USB to SATA connector and attempted to access the old drive externally. It comes up in the windows explorer menu as Local Disk D, then Local Disk E verses as a USB drive device - directly under the computer's standard Local Disk C . It will then show up a third time as local Disk D or E - but not indented this time. It's spinning, but I can't seem to access it. I get the dark blue screen and have to unplug it to get back to get the computer functioning again
