I had built a computer a few years ago, and my headphones have always worked fine with it. However, for the past view months, headphones - regardless of the pair - headphones don't work unless you play with the cable and have it sit in a specific position. I have no speakers connected to my PC so headphones are the only sound device connected, meaning that once the cable moves and they get disconnected, problems arise with certain programs and websites (discord, youtube, games, etc). One of my friends said that this issue is with my tower. What could be the cause of the issue?

Solution
Very possible that the output plug is broken. Are you using on-board sound, or have you got a separate sound card? If the onboard speaker/headphone output has died, you could just get a new PCI sound card. Or use a USB sound interface, which is a good idea if you use the headphones and mic to stream or play online games as you have much more control of the sound.

Hope this helps!
