Hey guys! I am looking to upgrade my current computer to be able to play more modern games in with respectable fps and quality. Currently I have the following specs:

Windows 8.1 64 bit
a8 6500 apu
6144mb ram (probably ddr3 I do not know)
gtx 950 4gb
generic 286 watt PSU
asus K30bf_m32bf fm2 socket
HDD 149gb and HDD 763gb
Case is mATX

I want to focus on upgrading my HDD and CPU, so I searched and thought these were great:

Samsung 850 EVO 250GB 2.5" 6Gb/s Solid State Drive
GIGABYTE GA-78LMT-USB3 (rev. 6.0) AM3+ AMD 760G + SB710 USB 3.0 HDMI Micro ATX AMD Motherboard
AMD FX-8320 Vishera 8-Core 3.5 GHz (4.0 GHz Turbo) Socket AM3+ 125W FD8320FRHKBOX Desktop Processor

I currently have the budget of about $450. Should I try to purchase a PSU? Is there any other alternatives that are cheaper or better for the price? Is there any compatibility issues? I really need help as this is the first major PC upgrade. Thank you!

EDIT: By the way, my budget is $450 CAD.

Please don't think bad of this build because it's based around a Pentium. This particular Pentium has HyperThreading and the same amount of cache as its big brother the i3. It basically is an i3 with a slightly lower clock speed and $50 shaved off the price.

Thank you for your suggestion. Is the memory upgrade really necessary? I would rather put money into a better CPU such as an i5. The reason why I chose fx 8320 was because of its cheap price relative to the i5 but slightly weaker (from what I have read).

"Slightly weaker"? The i3 6100 runs circles around it.

The FX 8320 is a cheap quad core with weak cores and low IPC and it has four extra threads hastily thrown in. The way that pairs of cores are packed into modules makes it so that Windows can't use all of them. Windows identifies each module as a core, effectively cutting the number of usable cores in half. Keeping in mind that a single core on the i3 6100 is roughly twice as strong when set to the same clock speed as a single module (two cores) in that chip, no FX chip is worth buying.

It's time to face the reality. FX is dead.

Is there any other setup you can suggest? Unfortunately, that CPU is not in stock in any online retail webites.

Tru that. I3 6100 is what i will go for too.
As for OP try out the i3. Or just tell the grandmaster where you live.

Here's an improved list.
Also yes you need the new memory as it is a more recent platform which uses DDR4.

Thank you for your suggestion. Although I agree with the choices, some parts especially the Intel Pentium G4560 3.5GHz is unavailable. I have made a list that is currently available in a nearby store and is somewhat similar (I think it is) to the specs you have suggested. What do you guys think of it?

I have just found another Intel CPU that is available. Should I purchase the Intel Pentium G4600 Kaby Lake Dual-Core Processor which is similar to or better than the Intel Pentium G4560 3.5GHz Dual-Core Processor? From what I have read, the G4600 seem a little more better in every aspect, but just $30 more expensive.

Hey. I prefer to pick up my items rather than purchasing online because of the shipping and handling fees. From my past experience, shopping online up in Canada just costs way to much. Basically, the low price you save is cancelled out by the shopping and handling fees. The only online retailer that has that CPU available goes for $107.93 CAD D: G4600 goes for $114.99 though.

If I were to purchase that CPU you suggested on Vuugo, in total it will cost $103.69 excluding handling fees which I do not know. I still think the G4600 that goes for $129.94 which I would happily buy from a nearby store.

No worries I could care less about votes :). Can you please explain why I should make sure the motherboard I get has b250 chip set?

Bios compatibility out of the box, the b250 chipset was released with the kaby lake cpu. If you get a h110 board that doesnt have the bios update it will not post (turn on) leaving you with ethier finding a older cpu to us to turn it on so you can update it then switching the cpu to your new one or oaying someone to do it for you. Save yourself the headache get the b250 chipset

Forgive me but I am confused. I want to have as many choices as possible. When I choose my motherboard, do I look for one that has a b250 chip set or can I also look for chip sets that include the features and is better than the b250? Because when you say that I should at least get the b250, I do not know what chip sets are greater than b250. Must it have a greater number?

Sorry for the wait.

B250, h270, z270 are your options but the b250 will be the cheapest. Chugalug is right you COULD get a board updated out of the box BUT you could also not and be up a creek without a paddle your call the h110 boards are cheaper and could work maybe......

@OP, if you could give us a concrete list of retailers you're willing to buy from it'd be greatly appreciated, we're kind of shooting in the dark here to a degree.
Ignore all the motherboard stuff, just get the Gigabyte B250 DS3H, best value board for you.
@weberdarren97, spend an extra $25 in that list and get the DS3H, it is a far superior board to the HDV and has more RAM slots.

No guarantees that they already have the update, and they'd need a Skylake CPU to install the update. It's a road I'd rather OP not travel so he doesn't end up in a sticky situation.
