I've been using the same PC for a long time. Its pretty old and has served me well but it is in its death throes as I type this(literally screaming at me and it took me about 40 minutes to type this) and I really can't be without a PC right now as I'm in the middle of med school and use it a lot. I live on a pretty tight budget. I've got about $50 in my account but looking over my stuff I can probably sell enough to give me around a $300 budget maybe up to $350. I definitely can't come up with $400. I haven't built a PC before but it looks pretty simple and I have a friend that can help. I just assume it will be cheaper to build than to buy. Please let me know if that isn't the case.
Approximate Purchase Date: ASAP
Budget Range: 300; maybe 350. Definitely can't do $400
System Usage from Most to Least Important: My needs are pretty simple. I definitely need a cd burner and preferably one that plays DVDs also. USB 3.0 would be nice but not necessary if they are too expensive; regular USB ports would be okay. I would really like to have windows 7. I do not need a keyboard, mouse, monitor, etc.
Are you buying a monitor: No
Parts to Upgrade: Complete build.
Do you need to buy OS: No, I think I can get one elsewhere free or cheap.
Preferred Website(s) for Parts: No preference.
Location: Georgia/Tennessee Line
Parts Preferences: No preferences
Overclocking: unsure
SLI or Crossfire: unsure
Additional Comments:
Here are the things I would like it to be able to run:
Soulseek
IRC (Hex Chat)
Usenet Newsgroups
DC++
Freenet
GNUnet
I2P
VLC mediaplayer
Utorrent 2.2.1
YACReader
Seamonkey Navigator
Ability to work on and use Amazon's Mechanical Turk
Games:
Serious Sam 1 & 2
Hotline Miami
Also, any recommendations for what programs and things you guys find essential for all new builds would be welcome. Things like Unlocker, DNSbench, CrystalDisk, JRT, rkill, tdsskiller, etc or any other utilities or programs would be helpful since I'm not really up to date on a lot of this stuff and have just been adding as I go along.
If anyone could point me to where I could find a version of itunes circa 2005-2006 that would be great. It works wonderfully with my old click wheel Ipod and I don't like the new versions nor need the extra stuff. If there is any way to move all my itunes settings, formatting, files, etc from my old PC to my new one that would be amazing as well since I've done a lot of editing to get all my files right over the last 10+ years.
And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading:
My PC is rapidly dying. I cannot be without a PC at this time so I need a new one ASAP.
