What is the MAX temperature of my cpu i3 540? I wanted to ask this since I had seen on Intel's website that the maximum temperature is 75-ish degree centigrade but on different programs like CoreTemp, MSI Afterburner, And Intel CPU Diagnostics software tells me that it is 105 degree centigrade. Whom should I trust?
Also, my CPU is on stock cooler.

Solution

It will hold steady until you go past 85 degrees then shut down, in order to prevent overheating and damaging itself.
I own that chip back in 2011 it gets real hot but still runs stable however a good aftermarket cooler will chill it off.

So is this the intel site you were on? it shows 72.6 as the max temp for the processor Integrated Heat Spreader (IHS) << this is top of CPU

Now the other temps might be core temps which can go higher I think

I can tell you 72c is no where near the max. IIRC it is 100c or 105c. And 1.4 is most likely Intel spec, which obviously doesn't apply to most overclockers. So much for your Google...

If you running up in the 70's you might want a new heatsink/fan combo. I try to keep my PC at half that on a stock cooler... but that is just me.

Let me ask you this are you using the intel stock heatsink fan, if so it would explain why your i3 540 will get hot after gaming.
Also 73c is pretty much average for your chip and every other intel cpu out there now.
With my haswell 4570 when I game my temps go from 28c idle to 56c at max.
