Hello guys, I just need help in Limiting the bandwidth in ma room. The challenge here is that I'm in a house that is shared along with my frnds and we have a 10 Mbps connection so we have like 8-10 devices that includes mobile phones and laps. The problem is I can't have a steady connection when I play my game DOTA 2, the ping and the Kbps keeps fluctuating. So my idea is if I limit BW to their systems I can play normally. Now here comes the issue I have a WNR614 router that doesn't have a QoS rule editor(I understand that changing the router can solve the issue), so if we want to go for some 3rd party software that can be installed only on my system and not disturbing the others, how can I limit the bandwidth... if its not possible I can accept that answer too... :) :??:

Solution
It has to be done on the router. If you could just load software on your PC and limit other machines then you could limit your neighbors usage of the internet too. Nobody would abuse that would they :) This is one of those fundamental design things that can not be changed. It was designed intentionally to prevent interference between end devices.

You could load software on each machines and limit that machines traffic. In the end you will still need a agreement on whose traffic is most important between the other people. There is no magic way to get more bandwidth than you have purchased. Even with a router that has advanced QoS you are going to have to divide up the band width to a fixed number of mbps for each device. It...

It will reserve this bandwidth even if you are not using the internet so it will in effect cause everyone to run slower.

Its not about greater share :D I thought it was not fair since DOTA consumes only less data and BW but still it was slowed down .... :(
