M.2 Slot Disabled?

Hi, I have a weird problem and I hope I can find the answer.

I recently built a new build and I have a MSI Z270 M7, which has three M.2 slots. I also bought a Samsung 850 EVO M.2 SSD.

When I first installed the SSD I tried it in the second slot, which in return did not recognized the drive, nor in the bios or during the OS installation.

I swapped it and placed it in the third slot, which recognized the SSD properly.

You might think it's a Mobo defect, but, for a different reason, I had to replace my Mobo, and the new one does the exact same thing.

Is there some kind of explanation here that might come useful? I haven't tried the first slot, but if I wanted to add some more M.2 drives, it could drive me crazy.

The only thing that I can think of is that I have an HDD connected to the SATA port n.4, but I checked the Mobo manual and they shouldn't interfere.

Thanks!

Solution
" 3x M.2 slots (Key M)*
ƒ M2_1 slot supports up to PCIe 3.0x4 and SATA 6Gb/s standards, 2242/ 2260 /2280/ 22110 storage devices
ƒ M2_2 slot supports up to PCIe 3.0x4 standard, 2242/ 2260 /2280 storage devices
ƒ M2_3 slot supports up to PCIe 3.0x4 and SATA 6Gb/s ** standards, 2242/ 2260 /2280 storage devices "
See the difference? Second slot does not work with SSD that use SATA standard. So I guess the SSD you bought, even though is M.2, uses SATA and therefore will not work with second slot. Obviously can't tell that for sure without full specification of your SSD, but that seems only logical explanation.

Ok, I have to thank you because I couldn't find those exact specifications, and my SSD seems to be exactly that, a SATA one. At least I know what I have to buy in the future to use that slot correctly, thanks!

It was an easy answer, but for the life of me I couldn't find an explanation!! Thanks again!

I have an EVGA x99 Micro 2 and in the advanced tab under "onboard device configuration" my m.2 socket3 is disabled by default...is it possible yours is also disabled in the bios which isnt allowing your m.2 drive to be detected?
