I have a windows 8.1 machine with 16 gb ddr 4 and a 6700k i7. My brother bought a new I7 7700k a few weeks ago and when he did they didn't have any of the new 270 motherboards so he bought a Gigabyte 170 gaming 5 this is the same board I have. He didn't know he wouldn't be able to boot the machine since the bios did not support the chip. So I took out my 6700k and installed it on his MB and flashed bios and then put his 7700k in and he is running fine.

Since I did this my machine now runs real bad in games. Very slow lots of frames dropping and even audio stuttering. Doesn't matter how graphically intense the game is. It is just as bad in Mass Effect as it is in League of Legends. They are like micro freezes and stutters. I have updated graphics drivers. Flashes bios update. Checked bios settings. Nothing seems to get hot. Using a Corsair h100 cooler on the CPU.

Don't think any dmg was done to the CPU. I placed it in a CPU tray when not using it to make sure no pins were damaged.
Going to reformat the machine this weekend if I cannot find a solution.

The only thing you could have possibly done wrong is incorrect installation of CPU cooler, as your symptomps point to CPU overheating. Maybe the cooler does not fit tight. Try to reassemble the CPU and the cooling. What CPU temps are you getting while gaming?

I did clean off the cpu and cooler and use new thermal paste.

If your cooler was reinstalled properly and is functioning, I would expect to see 10-15c. over ambient at idle.

It is highly unlikely that you damaged your cpu.

The motherboard pins is another story.
They are easily damaged if you did not drop your cpu directly into place.
You might want to check for bent socket pins. No telling what even one misaligned pin might do.

I got home and took the machine apart. I found the cable for the Corsair H100 water pump was not plugged in on the motherboard pin so it was not cycleing water and was getting near 100 degrees C in games. I hooked it up now machine is under 50C degrees while under load so thanks.
