Hi guys, I would like to know if I connect the nvme Samsung 960 Evo on a PCie port 2.0 x4 with an adapter PCie I will receive the maximum read speed and write speed??

I will not connect on a PCie 3.0 because I don't want my graphic card limited to x8 y don't want a drop of performance and I'm thinking in use this PCie port for another graphic card for SLI..

My board is: Asus maximus vii hero.

Help me please, I don't want to buy a m.2 nvme if I will not use the maximum performance of the drive...

The speed difference between the 960 Pro and 960 EVO is most likely not going to be noticeable during real world usage so in my opinion it isn't worth the extra money. But as for your question, the 960 EVO will work in a PCIe 2.0 x4 adapter, but you will not see the full speed of the drive. My guess would be about 1600 for read and maybe around 1600 for write. While those numbers are still pretty damn good, it's obviously nowhere near the full potential of the 960 EVO. Oh and it will still be plenty fast for real world if you decide to go that route.

I ran my Kingston HyperX Predator 240GB PCI-Express 2.0 x4 SSD in it's own PCIe adapter on a Asrock Z97 Extreme3 for well over a year with no issues. I may have gotten lucky, but just wanted to throw in my experience.

I know this is old, but I just happened to come across this as I was researching a similar question. The HyperX Predator PCIe SSD still uses an AHCI interface, not NVMe like the 960. That could be the reason why you have had no issues, as AHCI has been around for awhile. Just wanted to throw that out there in case someone else comes across this post.
