Hi spapgeo,
Sadly, I have 3 HP laptops and all of them now boot from SSD. I used Minitools' Partition Wizard to complete the move and then just swapped in the SSD and all went well. Partition Wizard is awesome, well documented and free to home users. It has a complete setup documentation for Moving to SSD. Do try to learn a bit more about using the BIOS or have a friend assist, 2 brains are better than one and as an advanced person, I do find that I still learn when I help someone less technical than me but I do NOT suffer complete much with those who will not read and try a few things on their own.

A bit of a info about the new approach from HP: All service and ways to make things unserviceable by the user is now a profit center. The meaning of this is that HP designs/builds in obstacles to users servicing their systems themselves!! They want to force you to hire them or certified service centers where they get a portion of fees. They build in this unserviceability so that even if you do not succeed, you have cancelled all warranties. They also now make it impossible to sue them about anything, it is all in the T&C's and it spell "Screw you".
