Hello everyone,

I have one of the gold contacts completely removed in my gskill ripjaws ddr3 4GB ram(9-9-9-24) 1.5v.

I found that 990fx board detects the ram after bios resets or when extra ram is inserted and system suddenly restarts while working.

When tested with memtest86 it is good and 4 passes successful with zero errors.

In intel based system it causes the system to freeze and restarts after sometime.

I believe the removed gold contact is the problem for these freezes. Is there any way to attach gold contact from someother memory modules?(i have ddr2 samsung memory lying around).I bought that ripjaw from OLX(used products online).

Thanks

Not 100% sure, but it is a very likely candidate.

I'm not sure that's even possible... maybe with a solder iron. I wouldn't risk it myself, but I am very paranoid of my baby. I would remove and/or replace the stick completely. Also, is the contact stuck in the memory slot?

I dont think the contact stuck in any of my boards(slots) as i had this problem from the first time i inserted this RAM. The guy who sold me is a junk it seems.

Are you sure that system freeze and non detection of RAM are due to this gold contact issue?

Since the contact is very tiny, soldering is not possible i think. May be painting with a marker pen which releases copper instead of marker ink. Warranty claim is not possible as it is used product and i dont have invoice copy or anything to prove i am the owner and also it is very clear that human error caused the problem rather than gskill manufacturing.

Yes. Buying used stuffs may be hit or miss. But i learnt a lot about how to select used stuff, how people with damaged product respond, like that.

Seasonic PSUs, Corsair memories, 3,4 th gen i5 or i7 CPUs, AMD FX CPUs etc if undamaged and in physically good condition, available at less that half of its original price are worth buying I believe.

I built a rig with
i5 3570k@4.2 GHz
Gigabyte Z77 mobo
Corsair Vengeance 16 GB
Seasonic 430W PSU (new as used one is very tough to find)
Cooler master tpc 812 cooler
nzxt case fan
Samsung evo 750 120gb
All built at just 1/3 of new price.
