Overall I believe the Exynos is the better performer. However, the much bigger question in the supported bands. Have you checked? Phones sold in different regions support different frequency bands. While now most voice and 2G/3G services are supported by **most** modern phones, 4G/LTE/4G+ services are much more hit and miss. The seller should be listing the supported frequencies of the phone, or the specific SOC version (for example I have an SM-G935FD). You can use that SOC number to find the supported frequencies and check that against the frequencies of your telco.

I ended up with the S7 Edge SM-935FD (an Exynos unit) which supports all the Optus frequencies here in Australia. But you'll want to double check your provider (Telstra...

Anandtech, who probably release the most detailed phone reviews on the web, found the performance between the SD820 and Exynos 8890 was pretty much a wash, with different tests favouring different platforms. They did find a significant improvement battery life improvement on the Exynos though: http://www.anandtech.com/show/10196/the-samsung-galaxy-s7-and-s7-edge-review-part-2/9

That was at release, perhaps things have changed since then.

But for sure step #1 is verifying the SOC supports the bands you need. You don't want to buy a phone because it's faster only to find that you're limited to 3G because your network's LTE bands are supported on your handset!
