Hey all, I looking for. Media centre / server pc and was wondering which one is the better deal in your opinion. I also intend to add a gpu I have lieing around at home and add 8 or 16gb ram

Dell Optiplex 960 SSF - has core 2 duo e8400 with 6gb ram - $75 AUD
Dell Optiplex 960 DT - has core 2 duo e8400 with 4gb ram - $65 AUD
HP DC7900 - has core 2 quad Q9400 with 2gb ram - $75 AUD

Of those choices, I'd stick with the Dells. DDR2 RAM, unless you have it on hand, is stupidly expensive and the 2GB the HP has is not going to make your life any easier.

Of the dells, the DT will be easier to work around in and pop a video card in. Both the Dells had the option for an addon video cards (half height) so as long as you can find one with the right dimensions and power requirements you should be able to get it to work, but the SFF will be harder to fit than the DT. The DT has a 255w PSU and the SFF has a 235w PSU, so take that in to account. You can get the Tech guide for the 960s here
