First of I'm really sorry if this question seems too simple to ask but I'm new to pc gaming.

Currently my pc has a 250 gigabyte ssd boot drive with as few programs as possible installed and a 3 terabyte storage space comprised of 3 one terabyte WD blue hdd. Since my steam library now takes up almost 2.5 terabytes I've been transferring my games back and forth between the hdd and ssd by changing their location through steam.

My question is, if I replace the 3 hdd with a usb 3 external hard drive to cheaply increase my available storage could I continue to move my games back and forth without too much time wasted in the transfer?

Thank you to anyone who answers, I appreciate your time.

I'd strip the 3tb drive from the external case , use it as an internal & put one of your 1tb drives in the external casing - problem solved.

Why do you feel the need to keep transferring between HD & ssd - apart from the initial loading time there really isn't much to be gained with most game titles.

The main reason I kept switching them back and forth was I thought there would be a noticeable difference in performance, and one of the three hdd was much older than the other two and I didn't want to put too much extra wear and tear on it by using it to play games
