I have saved up enough cash to buy a gtx 1070. Problem is, i am not sure which one to buy. My build has a red and black theme and i was thinking of getting a rog gtx 1070 strix edition as it would go pretty well with the build with the whole light up backplate and 3 fan design. On the other hand, my friend recommends that i save some cash and go for the gtx 1070 founders edition which looks nice and all but doesnt exactly match with the green led on the side which i will have to scrape the film off to make it white. I know the strix is factory overclocked and has many features like 2 hdmi and the 2 fan headers which will be useful to me but i am not sure which one to invest in. Is the founders edition 1070 good enough or should i pay the extra $100 for the bells and whistles that the strix 1070 has.

TL;DR:

founders edition is cheap but doesnt match build, so ill have to void warranties to make it match while the strix is expensive but has what i need.

I also have a rog gtx 1070 strix edition, I haven't had any issues with it. It looks really nice and the colours work well if you have a RGB setup, software is relatively easy to use. Able to play witcher 3 1080p at 60fps on ultra. I haven't experience any overheating, 20c idle normally 50-60c when gaming. If you are trying to save money then another card might be better but if you dont mind spending that little extra to match the theme it is a nice card to go for.

yea i totally agree. is the software that is used to control the leds good? i have never heard or seen reviews about the asus aura software. Also will it work despite the fact that my motherboard is from msi?

I have considered the msi gtx 1070 even i am running the 1060 gaming x version but i dont like how the red plastic can't be changed and although feels really firm and strong, still has that flimsy feel to it. I have always liked MSI products but i think this time i'll pass on the 1070. Also this 1070 was made to match their skylake motherboards so the red stands out really poorly against the grey tinge of the m7, so it doesnt really match unlike the strix which is matte grey.

I have a MSI motherboard so don't need to worry about that. The software isn't horrible, you can do what you need to with it and you have a lot of control over the colour, I would say that the audio option isn't too great but thats my opinion.

Oh ok thanks for the insight. I will definitely consider this card then. I am also a fan of the 3 smaller fans instead of 2 large fans that most gpu brand’s tend to go for. I also really like the matte grey which matches the motherboard really well. I think i will get the strix card then. But should I get the oc version or the normal version since I'm going to be self overclocking this GPU with msi afterburner.
