What's the worst that could happen when you overclock

Ok so I want to OC my 6700k to 4.5ghz at 1.3volts with the kraken x52 (with four fans)
And I was wondering what was the worst that could happen like voiding the warranty or damaging my pc and if it does which parts are most likely to be damaged besides the CPU (I've heard it's ram, motherboard or PSU) and if I do have a successful OC should I lower the voltage by 0.1 or 0.01 volts

1. be successful and run stable
2. be unsuccessful and will not run stable
3. be unsuccessful and kill your cpu and/or mobo
4. burn house down

The worst that could happen? Your PC catches fire and your house burns down. Hey, I am quite serious. The least that could happen is that you void your warranty...overclocking always has that effect.

You really should not attempt to go straight to 4.5 GHz. Work up to it in several incremental stages, verifying power and temperature levels and stability at each stage.

when you oc successful do not lower voltage all that does is make your oc unstable. what you can and should do is lower your ghz via ghz or multiplyer.

motherboard is the second to go.

not sure about ram.

as an aside: whenever I follow the online so called reputable oc guide I killed my system.

killed system:
g3258 and asus z87a mobo.
fx 4770k and asus sabertooth.

I recommend you keep every voltage setting at auto.
and then start at 4.1 use memtest for when you sleep like 8 hours or so. and then run prime95 for 24 hours in windows at small fft.

after that keep voltage at auto and use 4.2 and run memtest and prime 95 for the same amount of time.

then 4.3 and so on and so forth until your system is unstable e.g. 4.6 at auto. then take a notch off and 4.5 at auto stable.

for god's sake I hope you have a cooler like noctua dh15 or a custom liquid cooler.
