I built a new rig recently. I built it specifically with overclocking in mind. Specifications are:
ASUS Sabertooth R3.0 "TUF Series".
AMD FX 8350 Black Edition OC'd to 4816 MHz 1.4625V "Stable" 480mm Radiator Water Cooled.
4x 4GB GSkill Sniper Series Memory OC'd to 2349 MHz 1.5V "Stable" Air Cooled.
2x XFX GTR RX480 Black Edition OC'd to 1400 MHz Core/ 2200 MHz Mem +0.048V "Stable" Air Cooled. 150 PCIE Frequency in UEFI. Stock is 100.
2x Samsung EVO 850 1x 250 GB and 1x 500 GB No Raid
Corsair AX1200 1200W PSU
Above I emphasize "Stable" because those are the specs that I was able to achieve after weeks of work. I used Prime95 in blend for days to test memory and CPU. I used Valley, Heaven, and Timespy multiple runs to find the stable OC for my GPU's. There was no throttling involved. I made sure my temps for my CPU stayed under 50 C and about 80 C max for my GPU's. However recently I wanted to get even more performance, just for my own satisfaction. I new for a fact that I could not get anymore performance out of my CPU without throttling. So I decided to tweak the GPU's. I have always used MSI Afterburner to overclock and have not had any issues. I attempted to get another 20MHz out of the Core, bringing it up to 1420MHz. I continued to get artifacts in he benchmarking programs. I continued to up the voltage until I hit +0.084V. I was confident that It could manage as with my other system having a (single) 390X. I was able to get the 390X all the way to +0.096V without failing. However With the 390X the system shutdown and had 0 issues after that. The same thing happened with the 480's the system shut down. The difference was it kept shutting down. Finally I just pulled the power from the computer. After that the NO VGA DETECTED "speaker beeps" started to happen. I reset the BIOS by pulling the small battery off of the MOBO for about 30 minutes. This fixed the NO VGA DETECTED issue. The system started up and ran normal. Or so I thought. The issue I am here for and that puzzles me is if I don't USE the computer and let it idle in windows. It shuts down after X amount of time. If I USE the computer ie; gaming, internet, homework, etc. It does not shut down. ONLY when it idles in windows does it shut itself down. I ran an experiment by allowing the computer to idle in BIOS to see if it was more hardware than software. In BIOS the computer will run and idle like any old computer. No shutdowns no issues. It is literally only when I let it idle in windows. I have tried different things to no avail. I tried clean installing different GPU drivers. I tried "cleaning" the registry. I uninstalled and reinstalled MSI Afterburner in an attempt to get rid of any residual settings. At this point I need help. I would be very much appreciative for any suggestions/answers. Thank you.
