Hi all, first time poster here. So I've been the lucky owner of an AMD Athalon 64 x2 4400+ since 2007. I use this computer for Internet, and have it hooked up to a large 50" Vizio. I've had this type of setup for 10 years, and it is still crushing my internet computing needs so I want to keep going with it.

So lately my CPU has been very slow and overheating, so I decided to clean the dust out. I noticed the thermal paste was dried out as well, so I just went and decided to upgrade the heatsink and fan as well because of the high demand Chrome puts on my CPU.

So I ordered an EVO212, and I guess I did not factor in the size of the case, and it does not fit. I obviously am not going to cut the copper pipe on the cooler, but should I cut the case instead? It is side mounted onto the case, through the motherboard, and it is very heavy. Will it crack the motherboard, or put any sort of stress on it? Should I shim it up underneath so it is resting on something? Also the fan has a 4 prong connecter, but the CPU fan motherboard input if 3 prong. Seems like it will still fit though.

Should I just order a new fan+heatsink? If so, which one will fit inside an HP Pavillion a6407c PC? I can't seem to find any info on how to figure this out online!

Thanks!

Hyper 212 EVO is 159mm tall, so, you'll need something that is shorter.

At 150mm, you can get Arctic Freezer A32. I have it in my Skylake build as well, full specs in my sig.

If you need more clearance then at 130mm you can get Arctic Freezer 13.

To know how much clearance you have, measure the sticking out part of Hyper 212 EVO heatsink. If you're less than 8mm short, you can go with Freezer A32. If you're short more than 10mm then go for Freezer 13.

As far as 4-pin fan and 3-pin MoBo CPU_FAN connector goes, your CPU cooler fan works just fine. Even though MoBo doesn't...

As far as 4-pin fan and 3-pin MoBo CPU_FAN connector goes, your CPU cooler fan works just fine. Even though MoBo doesn't have 4th pin to control PWM fan via PWM, MoBo still can control the fan speed by regulating voltage.
