Hi, can anyone advise me what setup I need for watching downloaded films, surfing and the odd older game. I do have a spare radeon 5850.
Thanks Lordy

Here's comparison between G4560 and i3-7300,
link: http://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Pentium-G4560-vs-Intel-Core-i3-7300/3892vs3893

G4560 does cost less than i3-7300 but it also performs worse.
pcpp: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/products/compare/XQM323,8gKhP6/

I'd go with i3-7300 but that's my personal preference.

Edit:
For gaming machine, the minimum CPU i'd suggest would be i5-6400/ i5-7400 since i5 is quad-core and fares far better in games than dual-core i3 or Pentium G series CPUs.

This build here will do fine, just put your Radeon HD 5850 into it and you're golden.

Thanks very much for your help and quick reply. I made a mistake my graphics card is a Radeon HD 7850 and I also have a new 700w power supply also a Samsung 5tb drive. I've got my old machine working over the weekend, but I'll be hoping to get processor, mother board and solid state drive as stated. I'm in UK so shipping might be a bit more. Thanks again Gordon.

Few words.

Had to change out the case since DIYPC P48-BK isn't available in UK.

If you already have DDR4 RAM then you'd only need CPU and MoBo. But if you have DDR3 RAM then you'll also need to buy DDR4 RAM.
As far as your 700W PSU goes, without knowing it's make and model, i can't tell it's build quality and if it's safe to use or not.

Hi, power supply is a ace A-700BR 700w, it's been fine in my machine. But looks like the best thing is to stick with your setup and start afresh. At least now I know what I need. Thanks again for your advice, Gordon.

i'd go with the pentium g4560 rather than the core i3. it's around £70 cheaper too.

i believe the poster is wanting more of a home theatre type system than a gaming pc. the g4560 is a wonderful cpu. have one myself. and i recommend it to anyone not wishing to break the bank for a core i5 . it's not cost effective to buy a core i3 over the pentium.. if he was to go for the core i3.. he might as well spend an extra 20 quid and get a core i5 6400 or 7400

No, get that thing replaced ASAP. You definitely want something much better when you're getting new equipment. Something from Seasonic or a higher end EVGA model will be much better than that PSU shaped object in your system currently.
