Hi,

Haven't posted in awhile, my rig has been running smoothly up until several days ago. Things started acting up on the evening of March 20th, couldn't do a system restore since it said there were no points. The system crashed while playing the Witcher 3, black screen with looping sound. Then again a couple more times. I've tried using DDU to uninstall the display driver then re-install, a few different releases now, the latest driver as well as old ones.

I've been getting all sorts of crashes. Whenever I run a game it will crash. Just browsing the desktop the monitor will randomly go black for 5 seconds then come back with the green 'DVI' box in the bottom right corner. With the way Nvidia's drivers are it's hard to if I have hardware problem or what is really going on...

When the screen turns black I can't even get the monitor menu to pop up when pressing the button on the monitor, which it normally does even when the PC is off.

I'm getting these errors, not sure if anyone knows what the likely cause is. I've tried re-installing windows 10. Can't seem to find much from searching. Thanks for any help. I'm thinking it may be time to RMA the GPU.

Right now I'm on another PC and the monitor is working fine.

Solution
Well we did our part, your being sure or not wont change anything, do some testing, or throw in trash and buy a new one. You want from us to give you different diagnose now because you saw blinking ? Yeah go buy new graphic card and new power supply, and also new motherboard just to be sure. Case solved.

No, I'm afraid not. Can't test the mobo, PSU, or GPU on another system since this is the only modern one I have. I would have to take it in to the repair guy.

I suspect your GPU is dying, i had similar experience with my dying HD 6870, altho your gtx 970 is fairly new. Try putting your gpu in ANY computer if it has pci-e 16x, you can use your own pc power pins for gpu if other computer doesnt have them (bring 2 cases close together and borrow some cables)

Also, what PSU do you have?

I suspect your GPU is failing since failing Vram will cause software errors like you are experiencing.

I suspected the GPU at first, now I'm not sure. I just went to power down the PC, after it shut off the power kept blinking back on and off every second about 10 times, then stopped. Also, among the random crashes I've had, twice there was what seemed like a power surge coming from the PC, followed by black screen and my USB keyboard going dead, no LEDs. The reset and power buttons on the case didn't work to reset the PC those times, I had to flick the switch on the back of my power supply off then on again. I have a Corsair HX750 Gold, it is certified refurbished. I got it from newegg along with other parts for the PC.

A failed GPU can cause those issues, trying another one in yours or your GPU in other would tell if we had to look somewhere else.
