GTX 1080 with 11 Gbps GDDR5X?

I'm about to upgrade to a 1440p G-Sync monitor and I'm wanting to also upgrade to a GTX 1080 to go with it, but I've been waiting to see the new updated models featuring the slightly faster version of GDDR5X running at 11 Gbps instead of the current 10 Gbps. Unfortunately I'm not seeing anyone selling them yet or seeing any info about it other than this post by Nvidia.

Also off subject question, but does anyone know anything about HDR 1440P monitors?

The 1080 Ti has 11 GB and is what that link refers to.

Incorrect, the GTX 1080 Ti indeed has 11 Gbps but the title of the linked article states it for one, for two if you scroll down some it says it. "When we launched the GeForce GTX 1080 last May, it was the world's first GPU to feature G5X VRAM, raising the bar for memory bandwidth and performance. Today, we're excited to announce that the new next-gen G5X VRAM found on the GTX 1080 Ti is also coming to the award-winning GeForce GTX 1080, on products designed by our partners. And lastly during the introduction of the GTX 1080 TI, Nvidia CEO Jen-Hsun Huang said that the GTX 1080 will be receiving a update featuring the new faster GDDR5X.

While they may have stated it back then, it would make more sense to utilise that amount on the next generation instead of having another edition of the normal 1080, which may not make any worthwhile difference in performance and probably cost a fair bit more. On a 'newer gen' card with higher clock speeds, would make more business sense in my mind.

Seems the 11Gbps (10% faster than 1080) refers to the clock speed according to the link below, where the 11 is also the memory size.

I'm not interested in a GTX 1080 TI. I'm interested in a GTX 1080 with the updated memory speed. Please either read the full article I linked, or at least the comment i made above with a direct quote from the article stating that they're bringing the faster ram to the GTX 1080 too!

I can't argue with you on that. But we don't know what their plans are on the business side, and as far as we know they're not producing any more of the slower 10 Gbps GDDR5X and are mass producing the faster 11 Gbps GDDR5X now instead. What I figure is that all the 3rd party manufactures such as EVGA, Asus, MSI, are just selling off all their current stock of the slower 10 Gbps models before listing their newer models with the 11 Gbps. I'm just curious if anyone knew of any more information about this other than what I linked. If they ended up not following through with updating the GTX 1080 then I will just go ahead and grab one now instead of continuing to wait.

Here is a review of the MSI Gaming card, although I haven't seen them for sale yet. With the Vega release looming I imagine the updated cards will be showing up soon.
