My power supply does not have a 4-pin molex connector and I cannot afford a new PSU at the moment. Is safe to use one of the unused SATA power connectors and connect it to an adapter that goes from SATA to 4-pin molex and then plug another adapter that goes from 4-pin molex to a 3-pin case fan?

Solution
Yes, it is perfectly safe. Why not just use a splitter from the motherboard system fan header. It should be able to handle at least 2 fans no problem.

Most headers should be good for 1A 12V. So if you know the draw of your fans. You will know how many you can install before going over 1A.
