XFX AMD Radeon HD 7870 heating up wayyyyyy too much

I have an old XFX AMD Radeon HD 7870, that I've had since 2013, and it's been a good graphics

card, for the price.

However, recently, and I don't know if this is just because the hardware is old, but, nowadays,

whenever I'm running a graphics intensive game (BF1 at medium settings, Siege at medium, etc.)

, the GPU core reaches temperatures over 85-90 degrees celcius. Not only that, but the fans

stick to 2750 RPM, which, in my case, is REALLY loud, and it can run these games perfectly fine,

but it requires all of the graphic's card's capabilities, and GPU memory, to accomplish what I

need. Time for an upgrade, no doubt, but what can I do to keep this old one running a little

better? Some suggestions would be great, and hugely appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

I also have some older AMD cards but mine are 2 HD 7870 XT, with the tahiti core. I have them in crossfire mode. My processor is an i5 2500k overclocked to 4.2. I also overclock the video cards to 1150 core, 1500 memory fan speed 100% and power level 20. I never had temps above 65 on the GPU but my son got a new graphics intensive game "PlayersUnknown Battlegrounds". I check my temps. regularly and in this game, both my graphics cards reached 90C. The CPU temp. reached 69C. A few suggestions that I have used effectively in the past to cool things down. Others have also recommended changing the thermal paste on the CPU and I agree. First, you can remove the side of your computer case to allow more air to flow toward the CPU and GPUs. Dust could become a problem though so keep it clean. A floor fan blowing onto the open side can also help. Finally, an air conditioner can help in certain circumstances.
If you have a window air-conditioner and have a desk that's fairly high, you can open the side of the computer to allow cold air to be blown right on the CPU heatsink and also the GPU. This is the best solution if you have the right conditions, a window low enough to allow an airconditioner and a computer placed sideways, open side facing air conditioner. If the exhaust from the AC is too high, place the computer on a milk crate. Amazing results. Hope this helps.
