missing operating system error after insulting 2nd HDD.

Since I got my new desktop last week I was going to give my old desktop to my sista.

Her mobo and CPU was worse than mine (mine was i7 870 with p7p55lx mobo), So I moved her ODD and 2 HDDs to mine.

So.. specification is... CPU: I7 870 / Motherboard: ASUS p7p55lx / 8GB / 1TB HDD / VGA: don't remember :p

But here the trouble began. When trying to boot up, 'missing operating system' shown. I googled, found this page and checked almost every articles but none of it worked. Somehow, I just took 2nd HDD out (it has no boot file inside) and it boots up with no problem! I thought either SATA cable or 2nd HDD must have problem. But after all, I find out that both are all fine.

Then I checked BIOS settings. On the main menu, I can tell my mobo recognizes 2nd HDD. So I checked boot priority and #1 ODD, #2 1st HDD (Win 7 here) #3 removable dev. /

Did I miss anything? I'm almost a newbie in this area so any guide will be very helpful!

Thank you for reading!

Thanks for the tip. I'll try that way. But I remember I couldn't find 2nd HDD on boot priority order setting. (I can find 2nd HDD only on main page and Hard Disk Drivers setting.)

If the 2nd HDD does not show up in the BIOS, it may have problem, that why you can boot the pc when it was connected.
Also can you open any file on that HDD? If you can, and use the HD tune to check the S.M.A.R.T. to see it is fine or not. If you can't, try it on your new PC, use software like HD tune to check the S.M.A.R.T.

Thanks for the tip. I'm so sorry that I forgot to tell you that it was all okay when booting on with my sister's PC before moving HDD & ODD. So I thought either her 1st HDD or 2nd HDD is both good. Anyway, I'll try running HD tune to check. Thank you!

Thanks for the reply. The problem here is I can't find 2nd HDD option on boot priority setting page. I only see #1 ODD, #2 1st HDD (has boot file) #removable dev.

So I tried to change #3 option to 2nd HDD, because it only allows (I guess) 3 orders, But when trying to change, there is no 2nd HDD on choice menu. On choice menu, there were only ODD, 1st HDD, and removable dev. Which means I only could change orders between current setting or disable it.

Thank you!

Yeah there is. Does it matter? I'll try later but I didn't try it yet so feel like I'm gonna make it.

So you mean I change the current order on hard disk drivers? (if #1 1st HDD, #2 2nd HDD then #1 2nd HDD, #2 1st HDD or the other way round).
Then device priority page would be like #1 ODD, #2 2nd HDD (no boot file) #3 removable dev. Would it run with no boot file? Just curious don't get me wrong :p. I really appreciate to you guys :)!!
