Hello I am new here

I was wondering if I could upgrade my computer as the processor I have isn't getting my job done I have the E5606 (2.13GHZ) processor and I was wondering if the E5649 would work with my chip set (ICH10R) Some of the processors I tried to upgrade required X58 chip set. Processor socket is LGA 1366 The ram should be operational with it 12GB 2*6. Also my computer allows there to be 2 processors does the E5649 have support for me to have 2?

Again, I am new here so sorry if I did something wrong!
Thanks!

ICH10R is the SATA controller, not the chipset; since you have a socket 1366 CPU and the motherboard has 2 sockets, then it has to be a compatible server chipset. You need to tell us what computer or motherboard you have. CPU-Z may help you find that info as would checking the motherboard itself.

In theory 2 E5649 should work, but it's easy to make sure if you tell us what system or motherboard you have and the BIOS version (should be displayed in the Motherboard tab of CPU-Z). At a minimum you should verify that the BIOS version supports E5649 processors.

OK in CPU-Z [Mainboard] Tab gives me this

Model: 06FW8P | A01
Chip set: Intel 5520 Rev.22
South Bridge: Intel 82801JR (ICH10R) Rev. 00
BIOS
Version: A16
Date: 05/28/2013

So thats what CPU-Z gives me how would I check if the BOIS would support this CPU?

You have a Dell Precision Workstation, but which one? T5500 or T7500? Is this your motherboard? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Dell-Precision-T7500-Workstation-Motherboard-System-board-6FW8P-LGA-1366-/231193879064?hash=item35d43aa218:g:XBAAAOxyRhBSvF3s If so, then the T7500 was sold with the E5649.

What's confusing is that you claim that your system supports 2 processors, but that motherboard supports a single processor. http://sivirt.utsa.edu/Documents/Manuals/precision-t7500_Service%20Manual_en-us.pdf

T7500, and you can get a riser card for it, so sorry to mention that late. It connects directly into the motherboard, here is my Manuel: (Its the same as the one you sent me)

http://downloads.dell.com/manuals/all-products/esuprt_desktop/esuprt_dell_precision_workstation/precision-t7500_service%20manual_en-us.pdf

Page 20 Shows that label 21 and 22 is where it connects and power connects via 8 Pin connector. Page 86 shows the riser itself

But I do not have the riser card bought yet, so that's just information for later when I do get it.

Thank you so much again for this help!

So I did some research on whether it had duel CPU support after dell's information didn't give me it, I eventually found out on passmark that there is dual CPU support for that CPU, but the last question, will it support my BOIS? Version A16? And if not is it possible to upgrade?
