I think my ISP is blocking the port forwarding section of my modem, it's on the manual but when i open it on my browser it's gone, if I'll get a new router can i port forward on my router even if my ISP blocked the port forwarding on my modem?

Solution

Some combo units can be bridged to allow your own router to perform port forwarding. If the bridge feature isn't available or can't be enabled, you might be able to have your ISP provide you a modem-only device, or possibly purchase your own.

You may be able to find instructions on how to bridge your particular make/model, or post the unit's details here and someone may be able to assist you with it.

Port forwarding is only required on routers and not modems, unless your modem is actually a modem/router combo (usually has 4 LAN ports and/or wifi).

If it's a combo unit, then adding a router will not help unless you can figure out how to bridge your modem (have it assign the public IP address to your own router).

I think it's a combo unit, it has 2 LAN and 2 Ethernet ports w/ wifi, the other features aren't blocked only the port forwarding, so buying a router won't help?
