AMD FX-8320 overheating

So I had my 8320 running very cool with the stock cooler. I then rewired my pc to make the wires more neat, I accidentally plugged in the cpu fan into cha fan pins, rather than the cpu fan pins. I didn't even realize because it didn't give me a cpu fan error message. I was then playing DayZ and had changed the properties from the command line. -nosplash – removes the Bohemia Interactive splash page.
-noPause – gets you into the game faster.
-cpuCount=8 – set this to how many cores your CPU has.
-maxMem=4096– set this to the total amount of RAM your system has, 2048 for 2GB, 4096 for 4GB
-exThreads=8
-malloc=system – allow modern CPUs to allocate more ressource

I played for about 5 or 10 minutes and realized the cpu heat skyrocketed to around 94 degrees. I then turned off the computer, took off the stock amd cooler and reapplied thermal paste, plugged it into the right cpu fan pins on the motherboard and haven't been able to keep temps down since. It would run very cool before even underload rarely seeing it go past 45. I even went as far to install my Hyper 212 EVO cpu cooler and it is still getting very hot, going past 63 degrees which is amd recommended max temps for fx-8320. I'm not sure if the cpu was damaged or what happened, maybe from changing those settings in DayZ. I'll be glad to hear input for it is making me a weary gamer lol, thanks.

Solution
I could be wrong by you likely need to change cpuCount to 4. The 8230 is not really an 8 core cpu, it is 4 core 8 thread AMD just calls it 8 virtual cores and thus an 8 core cpu.

If 8320 overheats running prime95 or handbrake or other game it is CPU, if it is only in DayZ then it is game setting.

It could be that you did a poor job applying paste. DId you ever fully clean the old paste off of it?

Possibilities include:
IF it is multiple apps causing this:

* Cooler not functioning properly: this could be due to not plugged in right, motor on the fan(s) dying or dead, (pump dying or dead on water cooled, not an issue here,) Thermal paste poorly applied or not present.
* CPU damaged: If damaged, it could run hot easily.
* CPU overclocked too high: slow it down a couple 100's of MHz and try again.

IF a single app...
* potentially could be any of the above, or ...
* the fault of a specific app. (Not as likely, IMHO)

Ok I just went out and bought some isopropyl alcohol and am going to reapply paste, and yes I changed the settings back right away.

I just went and bought some isopropyl alcohol and clean everything very well and reapplied thermal paste. it's still running way too hot. I think changing those settings in the properties command line of dayz damaged the cpu, cause right after that it heated right up and hit like 90 something degrees, and hasn't worked properly since.

There is another possibility. If it isn't mounted properly, or just tight enough the CPU will run hot too. If the cooler is snug tight enough, then it does look like the CPU itself

the settings of a app or game shouldn't just cause a CPU failure on their own. The CPU would have to have a pre-existing state that would allow it to happen.
